Simon (Age 4) came to the Playroom with high levels of anxiety. His anxiety had escalated so much that he refused to walk past the swimming pool or fear of the Creepy Crawly. Simon loved the sand tray, and in his 4th session was happily building a sand story (saying very little to me about it) when he took a long string of plastic gold coloured pearls, and place them in a circle in the centre of the tray. As he did it, I got goosebumps, to this day I have no idea what was going on in his inner world, but I know this, it was miraculous.
Without another word, Simon got up and said he needed to go to the toilet. For the next 20 minutes he sat on the toilet, chatting happily and making the biggest poop I have ever witnessed. The session ended and Simon left. His Mom called me a couple of days later to say the anxiety had completely disappeared!
